Mr. Gottlieb established the Gottlieb name as synonymous with Emergency Medicine billing through nearly 30 years of industry advocacy, commitment to best billing practices, and active involvement in the Emergency Medicine industry. Mel has pioneered innovative systems and processes specifically for Emergency Medicine billing since 1978, when he opened Gottlieb’s Financial Services with three employees. Now heading a staff of more than 300 employees, he pursues high-level involvement in legislative and insurance issues while also remaining dedicated and accessible to clients and their patients.

Over more than two decades, Mel’s contributions to the business of Emergency Medicine include submitting to ACEP’s original book on reimbursement (1980s) and authoring the first book on Documentation Based Coding (1992), serving on various governmental and association committees, speaking at FCEP and ACEP meetings, and providing board-level direction for the new Emergency Medicine Learning and Resource Center (EMLRC) in Orlando.

Mel serves on the boards of numerous business and charitable groups and has received humanitarian, philanthropic and business awards from both national and regional organizations.

With more than 25 years’ experience with the business practice needs of physicians and physician groups, Mr. Drinkwater focused specifically on the Emergency Medicine billing industry as part of Mel Gottlieb’s Senior Management team. Mike also served as Executive Director/Business Services for The Emory Clinic, a 700-member physician group practice in Atlanta, and as Chief Operating Officer for Physician and Hospital Support Services Corporation of Mt. Joy, PA.

Mike Drinkwater has been a leader in bringing the principles of Total Quality Management to the health care industry and the field of Emergency Medicine billing in particular. Mike’s rigorous application of TQM methodology—instituting Continuous Improvement through Statistical Process Control—has enabled MGA to continually elevate its levels of service and simultaneously optimize net revenues for MGA clients.
